June News 2011

 NEWSLETTER NO.10
2 ième année
Classe de Madame Villeneuve

June  2011

Bonjour parents:

LANGUAGE ARTS

We will be spending this month completing a variety of language arts tests, reviewing the skills of punctuation and reading for main ideas. We  will continue to study “Les animaux sous la mer”.

Now that we have completed our final dictée  please spend the time you usually spend on helping to practise spelling words,  reading more to your child and listening to your child read to you.

READ-AT-HOME PROGRAM

We are nearing the end of the Reading Reptile Program. Please hand in your Reading Reptile Book on Monday, June 6. We will be celebrating our accomplishments on Wednesday, June 8.  Everyone in the class will join in for a special treat.  If your child has finished at least 25 hours of French reading, he/she will receive an award.

MATH

Madame Hill writes:  We will be finishing the year with our geometry unit.  In this unit we will learn about both 2D and 3D shapes as well as measurement.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We are continuing our study of our three Canadian communities.  The field trip to Markerville will help us learn about pioneer life and change in Canadian communities.

SCIENCE

We are continuing  our study of  “Les bateaux ”.  We are exploring different materials and building a variety of boats. Please find attached a homework assignment to build a boat. with a milk carton.  The boat needs to be handed in between Monday, June 13 and Friday, June 17. We will be floating the boats at our "Boat Regatta in the Courtyard" on Thursday, June 23.

 LIBRARY DAY

All library books must be in, and/or lost books must be paid for, Friday, June 3.

REPORT CARDS AND SUMMER READING

Report cards are distributed at school on June 30.  If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s progress please contact me before the end of June.
Please continue to encourage your child to enjoy reading over the summer.  Continue to read French, but remember that your child will be beginning formal English reading instruction in Grade Three.

THANKYOU TO PARENTS FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THIS YEAR.  I ENJOYED TEACHING YOUR CHILDREN AND LEARNING FROM THEM.  IT’S BEEN A GREAT YEAR AND AS I RETIRE IT WILL GIVE ME JOY TO LOOK BACK ON MY LAST YEAR OF TEACHING!

Have a wonderful summer!
Merci,
Madame Villeneuve
