Classes de Madame Villeneuve
April 2011
Bonjour parents:
Have a wonderful Spring break!
LANGUAGE ARTS
During April we will finish our Fairy Tale theme. We will be continuing to work on writing stories with good beginnings, middles and ends. The Fairy Tale we are writing in class will be entered in the Canadian Parents for French writing contest in mid-April.
READ-AT-HOME PROGRAM
Let’s keep reading!! The goal for each individual student is 25 hours before the end of the school year, but if your child has achieved this goal, they should keep reading to see how many hours he/she can read.
MATH
We are continuing with our unit of adding and subtracting to 18.
Madame Hill writes: In math this month we will continue to develop speed and accuracy when adding and subtracting double-digit numbers. Along with that practice, we will begin to look at how to measure objects (using common objects rather than a ruler) and examine the effect of changing that an object’s orientation has on its measurement.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We have been working very hard on learning about the landscapes and traditions of the communities of Saskatoon, Iqaluit and Meteghan.
As part of our study of Ukrainian culture, we will be painting paper maché eggs based on the Pysanky technique.
The weeks of April 4 to April 15 we are celebrating Toonik Tyme. We will have Inuit culture presentations and be learning Inuit games.
On Tuesday, April 19 there will be an address test. Please find attached a homework sheet on which to practice for this address test.
SCIENCE
We are continuing our study of Exploration of Liquids. One of the properties of liquids we have observed is how absorbant watercolour paper is and how water flows when we paint. The children have learned how important it is to conserve water.
We are planning to attend a Safety Fair on April 27. Watch for a consent form to come home with further information.
QUOI DE NEUF
Les filles-le 15 avril
Les garçons-le 29 avril
We plan to perform on April 14 with Mme Pedde’s class at our monthly Seven Habit Assembly.
THANK YOU TO
-all parents who were able to help in March,
-all the moms, dads, brothers and sisters who have been helping by encouraging their child to be responsible with their belongings, listening to their child read and helping with homework!!
